Bet365 were happy to lay the match at The Gabba ending all square and were dismayed to see England bat so well

bet365’s stance of laying the draw both pre-Test and in-play at the Gabba backfired spectacularly as the 1st Test of the Ashes series ended in stalemate.

bet365 spokesman Steve Freeth told Bettingpro: “Our odds compilers couldn’t have the draw and were very happy to be best price about such an outcome in Brisbane.

“Our huge position on England for the series, including one wager of £235,000 at 7/4, gave us a win/win feeling after the first day’s play with Australia trading at short odds-on.  However, we had the smug smile wiped off our faces by Strauss, Cook and Trott and, unfortunately for us, they go to Adelaide full of confidence.”

Ashes Series
Australia                                  11/8
England                                    6/4
Draw                                        7/2

2nd Test
Australia                                  12/5
England                                   12/5
Draw                                       6/5
