Down 0-2 in the series and having struggled to bat on the relatively placid tracks at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and the Sydney Cricket Ground, India will find the pace of the WACA a bit hot to handle. Or at least that is what the curators and the media would love the Indians to believe.

There isn’t too much doubt that the WACA track has undergone change since India’s last visit down under when the tourists had actually managed to win at Perth. The track will be greener and afford more bounce to the pace bowlers, which means that the Indian batsmen will have to bat out of their skins to get their tour back on track.

India will be under considerable pressure after they lost six successive Test matches away from home but gauging by their response to the defeats (their go-karting fiasco in the lead-up to the match), it looks like captain MS Dhoni is keeping a balanced dressing room environment.

Not that some of the Indian batsmen will not be under any pressure. Gautam Gambhir has had a struggle in recent times, Virender Sehwag has shown vulnerability against the moving ball, VVS Laxman’s away form has been the talk of the media and Virat Kohli hasn’t had much to show when he isn’t showing his middle finger to the fans. Trust the think-tank to bring in Rohit Sharma for one of them.

Australia went into the series with question-marks over both, their batting and bowling, after losing to New Zealand at Hobart but they have turned their fortunes around well. While the win at the MCG was a hard-fought one, they were crushing victors over India at the SCG.

There will be at least one change in their line-up though – James Pattinson is ruled out of the rest of the series which means that Ryan Harris will take his place in the playing 11. It remains to be seen now whether the management decides to bank on a four-pronged pace attack and replace Nathan Lyon with Mitchell Starc.

Starc goes into the match with a lot of confidence under his belt after leading his Sydney Sixers to a win over Thunder in a Big Bash League 2012 match.

Michael Clarke will be more confident of his batsmen now that the side managed to pile on a 600-plus score in the previous Test match. Clarke was a triple-centurion but what was more pleasing was the form of both, Ricky Ponting and Michael Hussey, both of whom made sterling centuries in the second Test match.

Expect a result in this one in four days and Australia should be favourites here.

The Australia v India 3rd Test game at the WACA in Perth will begin at 2.30 am GMT on January 13.
