Ed Cowan had a debut to remember at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Boxing Day, with the Australian scoring 68 as his team reached 277 runs for the loss of 6 wickets against the tourists.

Ricky Ponting may no longer be captain of the Baggy Greens, although the man nicknamed Punter led a fightback with the bat to ensure that the home team are right in the thick of things in what should be a thrilling contest.

India continue to refuse the decision review system and this was thrust even more into the limelight as Michael Hussey and Cowan were both dismissed on questionable calls.

The pair both lost their wickets during a 19-ball spell which also claimed skipper Michael Clarke as Zaheer Khan bowled the captain and Hussey in successive balls.

Ricky Ponting’s 62 was an excellent knock considering the pressure on the player’s shoulders, while Brad Haddin and Peter Siddle remain at the crease for Day 2 after adding 63 runs to the score.
