Australia v England 1st T20 at Adelaide Oval Preview and Tips

The first game of the limited overs leg of England’s tour of Australia will see the two sides play a T20I at Adelaide Oval. England had earlier won the Ashes 3-1.

And as if to prove that they are no longer a side that concentrates solely on the five-day version of the game, England trumped the Prime Minister’s XI to go into the T20Is as marginal favourites to win it. Blue Square offers 10/11 for an English win while Australia are at 1/1 (BetFred) to take a 1-0 lead in the two-game series.

For all the selection confusion in the Test matches, the Australian T20I squad has been finalised for both the game and it has been pruned down to only 12 members. There are only six frontline batsmen in the 12 including the wicket-keeper and that should mean that all six will make it to the playing 11.

Shane Watson (7/2 at Sky Bet) will continue to open the innings with hard-hitting and in-form batsman Dave Warner (7/2 at BetFred) at tow. Warner’s batting in the KFC Big Bash T20 has been good and this should make him one of the favourites to take the home team off to a big total.

However, in the absence of Michael Clarke (retired from T20s) and Michael Hussey (rested), Australia will have a slightly newer look. Aaron Finch (6/1 at Blue Square) should bat in the middle-order alongside the new captain Cameron White (13/2 at Boylesports) while David Hussey (11/2 at Stan James) will come in at five.

England, on the other hand, have many to choose from but one gets the sense that they may rest some of those who were a part of the Tests. Paul Collingwood (15/2 at Stan James), who announced his retirement from Tests will lead the side as he had in the World T20 while the side will look to open the innings with Michael Lumb (9/2 at SkyBet) and wicket-keeper Steve Davies (4/1 at SkyBet).

Man of the series in the World T20, Kevin Pietersen (4/1 at Totesport) should also play while Eoin Morgan (6/1 at Boylesports) will look to grab this opportunity with both hands after missing out on all the five Ashes Test matches. Morgan will be the player to watch out as England will look to dominate in this format of the game as well leading up to the seven-game ODI series.
