Willie Mullins' sensational Thousand Stars landed the French Champion Hurdle at Auteuil on Saturday afternoon.

The consistent grey delivered an impressive performance to scoot clear of his rivals in the French Grade One and saw off a high class field under the hands of legendary jockey Ruby Walsh.

The Aintree Hurdle and Punchestown Champion Hurdle runner-up seemed to relish the testing conditions at Auteuil and Walsh found it easy pulling away from front-runner Bel La Vie.

With no Big Buck’s in the field, David Pipe’s Grand Crus was fancied to return to winning ways, but despite travelling menacingly at the final flight, Tony McCoy couldn’t find the necessary turn of foot to keep tabs on the winner and he eventually finished well down the field.

Thousand Stars’ stablemate Mourad finished fourth under the hands of Katie Walsh on what was a fantastic day for Willie Mullins.

Victor Chandler cut Thousand Stars from 50s to 25s for the 2012 World Hurdle after his brilliant win and Grand Crus, who pulled hard and made his ground up very quickly before fading, was pushed out to 6s from 7s with Big Bucks hardening from 10/11 to 5/6.
