Recession Proof demolished his Supreme Novices quote to 12-1 from 33-1 following a gritty performance in Friday's rescheduled totesport Trophy at Newbury.
William Hill first cut the John Quinn-trained five-year-old to 16-1 for Cheltenham glory, however after a glut of support, the firm were forced to slice his odds even further.
The win rewarded the Malton contingent with a one-two in the Grade 3, with Brian Ellison's Bothy, a close second to Menorah in the Greatwood, denied by a small margin yet again.
Lucy Rhodes, spokeswoman for William Hill, told Bettingpro:
'What a tenacious performance from Recession Proof, who, as a novice, put a whole host of more experienced sorts in their place in a highly competitive event. We originally cut him from 33-1 to 16-1 for the Supreme, but punters filled their boots sharpish, and he's now as short as 12s.'
