Ryanair Chase - Jack the Giant cut

Pete Culshaw - 8 Jan 2008

Stan James have cut Jack The Giant to 14/1 from 16s for the Ryanair Chase and Butlers Cabin to 11/1 from 12s for the Grand National following their first and third placings in the Jelson Homes Quality House Builders Since 1889 Chase at Leicester today.

Nicky Henderson's gelding, easy to back on course and a 10/11 favourite, overcame Fundamentalist two out and survived his only mistake at the last to score decisively.

Neil Morrice, media and on-course representative for Stan James, said: "Jack left Mick Fitzgerald in no doubt that two and a half miles round Cheltenham would suit him perfectly in the Ryanair and it looks more likely Nicky Henderson will aim him at that rather than the shorter Queen Mother Champion Chase."

After getting detached for much of the journey, Jonjo O'Neill's Butlers Cabin stayed on well over this inadequate trip for third and Morrice added: "Tony McCoy reported he was flat out all the way, but was delighted with the way the horse stayed on. Jonjo seemed just as happy and Butlers Cabin is now joint favourite for the National with Mr Pointment."
