Rock On Ruby Champion Hurdle win sees Paddy Power donate £7500 to charity

Dorset Air Ambulance were celebrating when Rock On Ruby won the 2012 Champion Hurdle as they benefited to the tune of £7,500 after trainer Paul Nicholls had made the horse his Paddy Power charity bet.

Rock On Ruby was the surprise winner of the 2012 Champion Hurdle, beating 4/6 favourite Hurricane Fly and the well fancied Binocular at Prestbury Park on an eventful opening day of racing.

The victory was cheered by the bookmakers but Paddy Power have revealed that they did have to make one bumper payout - to Dorset Air Ambulance. The charity were picked by top trainer Paul Nicholls for his £500 charity bet at a Paddy Power sponsored race evening, with the Irish firm offering odds of 14/1.

Rock On Ruby, ridden by Noel Fehily started the 2012 Champion Hurdle at 11/1 and has been installed at 6/1 to retain his title in 2013.
