Pricewise 2012 Gold Cup tip Captain Chris backed for Cheltenham

Captain Chris has been backed from 20/1 into 14/1 for the 2012 Cheltenham Gold Cup after Pricewise tipped up last year’s Arkle winner.

The Grade One winner got his season back on track with a creditable performance behind Kauto Star in the King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day and he is sure to have his followers ahead of this year’s Festival.

Captain Chris is now a best-priced 14/1 with bet365 for the Gold Cup and jockey Richard Johnson was thrilled to see him back to form last month.  He explained: "I was very pleased with him. He didn't travel or jump quite as well as I'd have liked him to but he was slightly wrong after Exeter. He's hopefully back on the right curve now.

"He came to himself last spring and we are hoping the same thing happens again. He hasn't got a massive gap to bridge anyway.

"I don't think the pace was the issue as it was three miles around Kempton and he's an Arkle winner so he should have been able to go the gallop.

"Obviously he wasn't quite right for a month or six weeks before the race and maybe he just needed it a bit for his confidence. I was pleased with him but I'd also hope there's more to look forward to as well."
