The 2009 Cheltenham Gold Cup promises to be a thrilling spectacle with several real contenders capable of claiming one of horse racing's most coveted prizes. This year's renewal sees a much anticipated showdown between 2007 winner Kauto Star (9/4, Ladbrokes ) and Denman (5/1, Ladbrokes), who brilliantly took the crown in last year's race, while Neptune Collonges N/A is also expected to feature strongly. Kauto Star looked in fine shape whilst taking the King George at Kempton last December, however Denman could only manage to finish a distant second in the Levy Board Chase at Kempton in February. Kauto Star will be attempting to make racing history by becoming the first horse to regain the Gold Cup crown. David Pipe's Madison Du Berlais (10/1, Ladbrokes) is reported to be in tip top shape for the race, while the Jonjo O'Neill-trained Exotic Dancer (9/1, 888Sports) is also said to be running well.
