Kauto Star now 5/1 with Sky Bet to win 2012 Cheltenham Gold Cup

Kauto Star won his 23rd race in the King George Chase at Kempton Park, with Sky Bet now offering odds of 5/1 that he claims a Gold Cup success in March

Kauto Star is 5/1 (from 10/1) to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup with online betting firm Sky Bet after winning his fifth King George VI at Kempton on Boxing Day.

The Paul Nicholls trained charge has won the Festival highlight on two occasions previously, in 2007 and 2009, and was an impressive 3rd in last year’s renewal.

The 11-year-old picked up his 23rd success under rules on Boxing Day and was well backed at 3/1 to complete his King George VI success as the public got behind their hero. The 2011 Gold Cup winner, Long Run (5/2 for the 2012 Cheltenham Gold Cup), was second while Captain Chris (8/1 for the 2012 Queen Mother Champion Chase) completed the places finishing third.

Richard Horner, Sky Bet head of racing, told Bettingpro: “Kauto has been the punters pal twice this year at Haydock and now at Kempton Park with this brilliant win.

“He will raise the roof off Cheltenham if he can win there in March, in what will probably be his final year at the Festival.”

Sky Bet also have him at 10/1 to win the Ryanair Chase, should his trainer decide to take an alternative route at the Cheltenham Festival.
