The Irish bookmaker running scared of the Irish raider in the Champion Hurdle and are praying for the horse to get beaten

Irish hopeful Hurricane Fly could give Paddy Power a major headache tomorrow if he flies to victory in the Champion Hurdle.

Patriotic punters have upped the stakes on him winning following the news that reigning Champion Hurdler Binocular will not race along with the news that Ruby Walsh will replace Paul Townsend on board.

Hurricane Fly at 7/2 is currently a large six figure loser for Paddy Power. The firm are sweating buckets with that figure threatening to become seven figures by tomorrows off time!

Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power told Bettingpro: “Hurricane Fly is one of our biggest losers. It would be a great result for the Irish but not necessarily for us on Day 1 of the festival. It would definitely put us on the back foot. Between that and our money back special if Cue Card wins the first race I think it’s fair to say we’re feeling the heat!”

Paddy Power will refund all losing singles on the Supreme Novices Hurdle tomorrow if favourite Cue Card wins the race. If the special clicks it will cost the bookie up to €2million!

And it’s not just the Irish horses that punters are getting behind. Paddy’s Day on the Thursday seems to be getting everyone in the festive mood! Paddy Power are not only betting on how much of the black stuff will be consumed over the four days but they’re also betting on how often the word ‘Paddy’ is said on Channel 4 on St. Patrick’s Day. Seven or more is the 6/4 favourite!

And when it comes to Ireland’s favourite entrepreneur Michael O’Leary, punters can have 7/4 on him having a winner any day next week! The Ryanair chief has a rake of runners at this year’s festival including First Lieutenant and Magnanimity.
