The 38 entries for the 2009 totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup have been revealed and last year’s winner Denman heads the market withTotesport at 6/4.
Paul Nicholls’ gelding recorded a seven-length victory over stablemate Kauto Star in last year’s renewal but the latter is a 5/2 shot to get his revenge after taking the same race back in 2007.
As well as Kauto Star and Denman, the champion trainer could also saddle last year’s third Neptune Collonges who is third-favourite at 13/2. Nicholls also has five more entries besides the first three in the betting, including 16/1 shot Star de Mohaison and Big Buck’s.
‘The rematch is on,’ said totesport spokesman George Primarolo. ‘Denman may have had the upper hand last year but connections of Kauto Star are bullish that their horse can turn the tables on his stablemate this year and all being well, we should be in for another cracking race at Cheltenham in March.’
totesport have also started betting on the race without the big three (Denman, Kauto Star and Neptune Collonges) and cannot split Albertas Run, Exotic Dancer and Star de Mohaison and the front of the market at 9/2.
