Reigning champion Long Run has been cut to 5/2 (from 11/4) by the sponsors for next year’s Betfred Gold Cup following the news that the 2010 winner Imperial Commander will miss the whole of the next National Hunt season with a tendon injury.

The ten-year-old suffered the injury during his pre-season training in Northern Ireland but trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies has described the injury as ‘minor’ and expects to have his stable star back in time for the 2012-13 season.

“With Kauto Star and Denman entering the twilight of their careers and Imperial Commander out for the season, Long Run could well have the staying chasing division at his mercy and is already a short price to defend his crown next year,” said Betfred spokesman George Primarolo.

Time For Rupert is the 14/1 second-favourite with the sponsors with the trio of Weapons Amnesty, Captain Chris and Diamond Harry all next in the market at 16/1.
