William Hill have claimed that Hunt Ball was a 1000/1 shot to win a Cheltenham Festival race just six months ago but the horse's victory in the Pulteney Land Investments Chase on the opening day at Prestbury Park.

It was Cinderella who made it to the ball, but this afternoon at Cheltenham is was HUNT BALL whose fairytale came true after he scored victory for his owner at the most famous racing venue in the land.

So poorly regarded was the seven-year-old at the beginning of the season that bookies William Hill estimate his odds would have been around 1000/1 to win a race at the Cheltenham Festival just six months ago. But after a string of victories, the chaser made history when winning the Pulteney Land Investements Handicap at the home of National Hunt racing.

Kate Miller, spokeswoman for William Hill, told Bettingpro: 

‘’At the beginning of the season Hunt Ball looked like a Fiat Panda, and this afternoon he won like a Ferrari! An unconsidered 1000/1 chance six months ago to win any race at Cheltenham he’s now a celebrated hero!’’

the remarkable seven-year-old has now won seven of his eight starts this season, for his idiosyncratic owner Anthony Knott – who recently landed in hot water with Racing’s hierarchy after jumping aboard his horse in celebration after victory at Wincanton!

William Hill now quote Hunt Ball as a 33/1 chance to win racing’s Blue Riband – The Cheltenham Gold Cup at any point between now and 2018.
