St Patrick’s Day at the Cheltenham Festival can mean only one thing and the bookies will preparing for a backlash from punters after the layers regained the initiative at the this year’s meeting on Wednesday.

High profile defeats to Master Minded, So Young and Time For Rupert left punters reeling but the money is showing no signs of drying up and Victor Chandler have reported that they are taking some pretty big bets moving into the second half of the meeting.

Pricewise has been in sensational form at this year’s Festival and his followers have been happy to steam into Loosen My Load in Thursday’s opener, backing the horse into 6/1 from 7/1 in the Jewson.

Similarly, Tom Segal’s Tarablaze and Junior continue to shorten in the betting and are 14/1 (from 28s) and 5s (from 13/2) respectively.

Victor Chandler are also giving punters the chance to back how many Irish winners there will be on Thursday’s card and the firm think that the Irish will be lucky to get one (6/4), with two at 7/4, none at 4/1 and three of more at 5s.

The feature race of the day sees Big Buck’s and Grand Crus battle it out in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle and Ladbrokes have gone an incredible 5/4 about the champion winning his third consecutive title for trainer Paul Nicholls.  Meanwhile, Grand Crus is 4/1 with William Hill and there are sure to be plenty of punters getting stuck into both horses.
