Binocular out of the Champion Hurdle

Menorah is now favourite to win Tuesday’s big race

We wake to the news reigning Champion Hurdler Binocular will not be returning to defend his throne for a second year, with JP McManus’ charge absent from the 10 declerations on Sunday morning.

As a result, Supreme Novice Champion Menorah is now William Hill’s 3-1 market leader ahead of Irish hope Hurricane Fly at 7-2, and unbeaten Neptune Investments hero Peddlers Cross at 4-1.

Lucy Rhodes, spokeswoman for William Hill, told Bettingpro: ‘This certainly takes some shine off what is one of the most eagerly-anticipated races of the week, however it definitely means that a new name will be etched into the Champion Hurdle roll of honour, and we install Supreme victor Menorah as our 3-1 market leader.’

Stan James Champion Hurdle (NRNB): 3-1 Menorah, 7-2 Hurricane Fly,  4-1 Peddlers Cross, 7-1 Oscar Whisky, 9-1 Dunguib, 12-1 Khyber Kim, 14-1 Mille Chief, 25-1 Thousand Stars, 40-1 Overturn, 50-1 Clerk’s Choice, 150-1 Bygones of Brid (E/W 1/4 1,2,3)
