Rendall Munroe survives toughest test

Rendall Munroe, Leicester’s ´´Boxing Bin man`` outpointed Italian challenger Simone Maludrottu for the fifth successful defense of his European super-bantamweight title last night in Nottingham.

The scores of  116-112 (twice)  and 115-113 were not a fair reflection of what was a thoroughly competitive fight from start to finish.

Munroe started slowly, and the aggressive Maludrottu took advantage, sweeping the early rounds.

From the fourth Munroe took control of the contest, but the final rounds were nip and tuck.

Had the bout been in Rome the decision might no have gone Munroe´s way.

As it is he is likely to be named the mandatory challenger for Toshiaki Nishioka´s WBC super-bantamweight crown.
