In this televised England v Scotland bout the Lightweight title is up for grabs, but will Lee McAllister have what it takes to seize the belt and take it back to Aberdeen?

After some fierce exchanges of insults earlier this month bookmakers have made the Mancunian Murray strong favourite at odds of 2/7 (Ladbrokes, Blue Square).

Unbeaten John Murray is a classic style boxer who works hard and digs in. Some have suggested however that the traditional style of Murray will struggle against the faster McAllister – Just as Murray struggled against the swift Youssef Al Hamidi.

Despite vowing to “smash his face in”, fiery Scot McAllister is the outsider of this bout, odds of 5/2 (Stan James, Bet365) look ok value, though if you want to back the slightly older and slightly taller “Aberdeen Assassin” I’d recommend finding value by betting on a Points win at 9/2 (Ladbrokes) or a KO at odds of 9/1 (Bet365). 

If you’re still not tempted then consider that McAllister is the only Scottish boxer to have ever held two world titles at different weights simultaneously and despite not sharing Murray’s undefeated record, the Scot has boxed 3 more fights and has only lost one in his career.

Ladbrokes’ recently revealed odds of 4/9 for the fight to go the distance and 13/8 for it to be stopped before the end. My bet would probably be on the fight to go the distance with Ladbrokes at 4/9, and John Murray to win on points at 10/11 from Bet365.
