Betfred have reacted to news that Floyd Mayweather Jr wants to come out of retirement for a possible rematch with Ricky Hatton next year and make the American 1/4 to confirm his superiority over the Hitman should the bout go-ahead.

Hatton's lawyer Gareth Williams revealed today that Mayweather Jr, who comprehensive beat Hatton inside 10 rounds last year, has approached the Briton's camp about the possible clash.

Betfred spokesman Dave Metcalf said: "Hatton was no match for Mayweather last time they met, and there is no possible reason to believe the outcome would be different if the rematch went ahead. If it did then Mayweather would be a rock solid 1/4 shot and Ricky would be 5/2 to gain his revenge. 

"However, it is widely believed that the pride of Manchester wants to negotiate a lucrative bout with Manny Pacquiao in the spring, and that looks a far more logical route for him to take rather than face up to Mayweather again. If that fight does get the go-ahead then Ricky would be a 13/8 shot with us."
