Now that Joe Calzaghe’s out of the ring (for now at least), there’s only one big name in international British boxing. Ricky Hatton. After the fierce contract negotiations that at one point made the fight look a serious doubt the fight is now most certainly on and confirmed. And what a fight it looks set to be.

Bookmakers latest odds show that Hatton may have bitten off more than he can chew, representing Pacquiao as the early favourite at 8/15 (William Hill) whilst the best odds for Hatton are a value 9/5 from Boylesports.

It looks like the bookies may have got these early odds a little off, trainer Roach states:

"I have been to Pacquiao's gym, and watched him train a couple of times and he makes lots of mistakes, mistakes that he also makes in fights.”

 “In this fight I believe that Manny will make the same mistakes as normal and Ricky will capitalise."

These odds will fluctuate frequently in the build up to the May 2nd Showdown, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Hatton’s odds tighten up as we approach the bout, especially after comments such as Freddie Roach’s.

I’m going against the current odds and sticking behind Hatton, Pacquiao is a skilled accurate hitter but the sheer tenacity and power of the Hitman is a level above anything that Pacquiao has ever faced in the ring
