Britain’s Martin Murray will look to dethrone WBA middleweight champion Felix Sturm when the pair face in Mannheim, Germany on Friday night.

Murray, who is on the books of former world champion-turned-promoter Ricky Hatton, only captured the British title in June. On that occasion he gave Nick Blackwell a pasting but Sturm is a massive step up in class.

The German fighter has just two defeats on his 39-fight record, one to the great Oscar De La Hoya and the other to Javier Castillejo, his only defeat in Germany. At 32 Sturm might be starting to slow down but showed in his last fight against Matthew Macklin he has the ability to out-think younger opponents.

Murray, 29, has won all 23 of his professional bouts so far but this should prove to be too big a step up for the St Helens-born fighter.

With just 10 stoppages via KO on his record Murray doesn’t have the power to stop Sturm and as such could find himself in trouble in the later rounds if he lays into the German fighter too early.

Sturm is 1/5 for the win, with Murray 7/2 and the draw 33/1.
