British lightweight John Murray will look to make an impact in the US on Sunday when he challenges Brandon Rios for the WBA title at Madison Square Garden.

This fight wasn’t meant to be for Murray, as his conqueror Kevin Mitchell was supposed to be taking on highly-rated Rios, only for visa issues to scupper his hopes.

While Mitchell was pencilled in for this fight, Murray’s record means you don’t begrudge him having a shot at a world title, the 26-year-old having been British and European champion in the past.

However, Rios is a rising star in America having won all 29 of his professional bouts so far, the last 10 of which have come via a stoppage. The 25-year-old has also enjoyed high-profile wins over Anthony Peterson and Miguel Acosta and starts as the 1/12 favourite.

Murray will give it his all but is likely to be outclassed by Rios, with another stoppage on the cards after he was put down by Mitchell in the eighth. Rios is 2/9 to win via KO, with Murray 13/2 to cause what would be the biggest upset of the weekend.
