2009 looks set to be an amazing year for boxing, Hatton looks set for another blockbuster bout and Khan aims to continue his amazing record with a fight against Antonio Barrera. Yet 2009 won’t be a great year for boxing just because of big names like Hatton, Haye and Khan but the wealth of new talent.

Below is a full list of the expected boxing schedule for 2009, keep your eyes peeled for fight previews here on bettingpro as bouts approach.


JANUARY

The highlight of January has to be the fight for vacant titles on the 23rd.

23:  Stoke, England, Chris Edwards v Wayne Bloy (vacant British and vacant Commonwealth flyweight).

24:  Los Angeles, USA, Antonio Margarito v Shane Mosley (WBA welterweight).

30:  Montreal, Canada, Herman Ngoudjo v Juan Urango (vacant IBF light-welterweight).

York Hall, London, England, Kell Brook v Stuart Elwell (British welterweight).


FEBRUARY 
The highlight of February looks to be Cotto’s fight in Maddison on the 21st.

7:  Anaheim, USA, Vic Darchinyan v Jorge Arce (WBC, WBA, and IBF super-flyweight).

Rostock, Germany, Ruslan Chagaev v Carl Drumond (WBA heavyweight),

Andreas Kotelnik v Rene Maidana (WBA light-welterweight).

Puerto Madryn, Argentina, Omar Narvaez v Rayonta Whitfield (WBO flyweight).

13:  Swindon, England, Nathan Cleverly v James Obede Toney (Commonwealth light-heavyweight).

14:  TBA, USA, Nate Campbell v Ali Funeka (WBA, IBF, and WBO lightweight), Daniel Santos v Sergio Martinez (WBA light-middleweight).

Saint-Quentin, France, Cristobal Cruz v Cyril Thomas (IBF featherweight).
Jersey, UK, Clinton Woods v Elvir Muriqi (IBF light-heavyweight eliminator).

21:  Youngstown, USA, Kelly Pavlik v Marco Antonio Rubio (WBC and WBO middleweight).

Madison Square Garden, NY, USA, Miguel Cotto v Michael Jennings (WBO welterweight).

27:  Newark, USA, Tomasz Adamek v TBA (IBF cruiserweight).

28:  Houston, USA, Juan Manuel Marquez v Juan Diaz (The Ring lightweight), Chris John v Rocky Juarez (WBA featherweight).
Oaxaca, Mexico, Donnie Nietes v Erick Ramirez (WBO strawweight).
National Indoor Arena, Birmingham, Matt Skelton v Martin Rogan (Commonwealth heavyweight), James DeGale v TBA, Frankie Gavin v TBA, Billy Joe Saunders v TBA (debuts for British Olympians).

MARCH 
The highlight of March will probably be the middleweight fight between Elcock and Macklin

14:  TBA, USA, Chad Dawson v Antonio Tarver (IBF light-heavyweight).
Birmingham, England, Wayne Elcock v Matthew Macklin (British middleweight).

28:  Liverpool, England, Ryan Rhodes v Anthony Small (British light-middleweight).

APRIL
Hatton’s fight, yet to be confirmed, will undoubtedly be the highlight of April.

4:  TBA, USA, Timothy Bradley v Kendall Holt (WBC and WBO light-welterweight).
17:  Leigh, England, Matthew Marsh v Mark Moran (British super-bantamweight).
