British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price will defend his titles against Audley Harrison at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on October 13.

Price, who won the bronze medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, will meet the 40-year-old winner of the super-heavyweight gold at Sydney in 2000.

“Audley was an inspiration to me when I was younger, someone our amateur squad always looked up to,” said Price.

“He called me before Beijing to offer advice, which I'm grateful for, but he's still getting flattened.”

Price is quoted at 5/2 by bookmaker Ladbrokes to win a world heavyweight championship belt by the end of 2013 and is 3/1 with Sky Bet to claim a major crown – WBC, WBA, IBF or WBO – during the same timeframe.

Many knowledgable insiders within the sport claim the fast, heavy-handed 6ft 8ins Scouser is a future world champion.

Since the Beijing Olympics, he has racked up an unbeaten 13-fight run and his punching power has been undeniable with 11 stoppages, his last seven fights all ending by KO.

In January he demolished John McDermott inside one round to win the English title and followed up in May with a devastating fourth-round KO of Sam Sexton to claim the British and Commonwealth titles.

Harrison (28-5) won the European title in 2010 and beat Ali Adams in his last fight following a loss to David Haye.

His other four professional defeats have come against Danny Williams (2005), Dominick Guinn (2006), Michael Sprott (2007) and Martin Rogan (2008).
