Bolton fighter already eyeing unification match with top American ahead of Paul McCloskey clash

Amir Khan has vowed to lay down a marker to WBC and WBO light-welterweight champion Timothy Bradley when defending his WBA world title against Paul McCloskey at the MEN Arena in Manchester on Saturday night.

Khan, who claimed this belt by beating Dmitriy Salita and has already seen off challenges from Paul Malignaggi and Marcos Maidana, is expected to brush aside European champion McCloskey.

The Bolton fighter insists he will not be taking his Northern Ireland opponent lightly but is clearly already eyeing up a mouth-watering unification match-up with Bradley.

"I feel relaxed and I'm in great shape," Khan told co-promoter Ricky Hatton's website. "Training camp has gone really well, even with all the travelling to the Philippines with Manny Pacquiao.

"It's a massive opportunity for Paul McCloskey, so I have to be focused. A lot of people say all the hard work has already been done, but this is the time when you can't take your foot off the gas.

"He's been in some great fights and when you've got a team of up to 7,000 fans coming over from Ireland it just shows how much support he has and it will feel like he's fighting in his own back garden.

"But I'll have double that support from Manchester, Bolton and the rest of England so I believe we're going to have an electric atmosphere.

"I was speaking to Ricky at my house and he warned me that when these Irish guys come to England they come to fight and win, so I'm fully focused on getting the job done and putting on an impressive performance.

"I've heard Timothy Bradley is going to be there at ringside so I want to put on a show for him and the rest of the world. My fan base in America is growing all the time and I'm looking forward to going back there and fighting again later this year."
