The perennial champions lost to Tunisia 56-67 in the gold medal game of the biennial continental tournament in Antananarivo, marking the first time that they failed to win the competition since 1997. The Tunisians raced to a 21-9 start and left their opponents in pursuit mode the rest of the way to claim their first ever FIBA Africa crown. Marouan Kechrid led the winning team with 21 points and seven rebounds. Mohamed Hadidane added 19 points while Amine Rzig chipped in 14. Salah Mejri was held to only two points but grabbed 15 rebounds. The seven-foot center was later named as the MVP of the tournament. Carlos Morais paced the Angolans with 17 points. The Nigerians kept their Olympic hopes alive by beating Cote d Ivoire 77-67 in the bronze-medal match. 2011 FIBA Africa Championship Final StandingsGold: TunisiaSilver: AngolaBronze: Nigeria4 Côte d'Ivoire5 Senegal6 Central African Republic7 Cameroon8 Morocco9 Mali10 Mozambique11 Egypt12 Rwanda13 Madagascar14 South Africa15 Chad16 Togo Read our Bet365 review Get your £200 free bet at bet365 now Like Like Post to wall 252 Reads All Basketball News Recent Basketball Articles FIBA Africa Women's Championship gets underway Friday23 Sep 2011The battles are about to be waged in Africa for a spot in the women's basketball tournament at next Tunisia dethrones Angola in FIBA Africa Championship29 Aug 2011Angola's dominance in the FIBA Africa Championship has come to an end.
