The first match of the day was played with selections of Jamaica and Paraguay in a great game to that was close throughout, with the Paraguayans upsetting the Jamaicans by two points, finishing the game 71-69.
The South Americans began to impose their style of attacking play and won the first quarter 21-10. In the second quarter, the Jamaican reacted and shortened the gap to six points. The islanders’ rough play brought them back to the game closing the half with a 30-36 lead.
The third quarter saw Paraguayan Maria Mercado become a key player in the game, with her intensity on both sides of the court. The game, which was hard fought at all times, finished 55-51 after 30 minutes of play.
In the last quarter of play, both teams left everything on the court to win the game, but the Paraguayan stayed together as a team and imposed a tough defense against Jamaica. Paraguay won.
The second game of the day was played by the selections from Brazil and Mexico. The South Americans started their effective game, rotating the ball down the field, demanding more from the Mexicans and won the first quarter 24-11.
In the second quarter, the Brazilians defeated the Mexicans, 45-24. The supremacy of the South Americans was evident, and along with the effectiveness of Adriana Moises Pinto, allowed the Brazilian to take over the game.
The South Americans had complete control constant during this stage of the game, and the Mexicans, who had no answers, tried to make a good showing but the Brazilians were too much and at the end of the third quarter, the scoreboard had them up 65-37.
In the last quarter, the trend continued and Brazil followed up on the scoreboard to finish 88-61. The good work of the defensive and offensive side from the South Americans has been a constant throughout this tournament.
"We are a team that handle our responsibility in the game, we have tough games but our team is solid right from the start," said Brazil coach Enio Vecchi.
"We knew it was a tough game, a team far superior to us physically, with hard work and long training, we did our best." said Mexico coach Ray Santana after the match.
