Like in the past two seasons, the PBA will use a three-conference format.

The first conference will be the Philippine Cup. This is an All-Filipino tournament with the ten participating teams playing each other in a double-round robin elimination. The top two teams will qualify directly to the semifinal. The remaining six teams will face off in the quarterfinals while the bottom two will be eliminated.

The second conference, also known as the Commissioner's Cup, will follow the Philippine Cup. Under this format, each team is entitled to tap an import with an unlimited height. The teams play each other in a single-round robin with the top six teams advancing to the next round.

The third conference, aka Governor's Cup, will the season-ending tournament. Competing teams are allowed to hire imports not standing above 6'5".

League officials made some minor changes in the format. A single-round robin will still be played but this time the top eight teams will advance while the other two will be eliminated. The top four teams will have a twice-to-beat advantage over the lower-ranked teams. The winners will then advance in the best-of-seven semifinal.
