The Lakers already had the best lineup in the league, now they have some injury insurance.
Lamar Odom will be staying a Los Angeles Lakers as his new contract is worth $33 million over the next four years.

The Lakers, even before the announcement of the contract, were considered the team most likely to win the 2009-10 NBA title as they already had Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, and Ron Artest as team stars.  By keeping Lamar Odom, the Lakers are so deep in serious talent that they now have insurance against injury: should one of their key players fall and miss a chunk of the season, they will still have enough depth to, not just compete, but lead their conference.
Odom's per game numbers have dipped in the past few years but only slightly and the dip looks like it a product of less minutes played as opposed to Odom approaching the age of 30.  Also, Odom receiving less playing time and receiving less starts is hardly a reflection of his own inability but rather it is a reflection of the fact that he's surrounded by other worthy players as he's been apart of the Lakers for five seasons now.
