Connecticut Huskies vs THE FIELD - back the Connecticut Huskies

- 17 Mar 2010

Those looking to back the University of Connecticut in the NCAAB women's national championship tournament are about to say one word: "OUCH".

Players Only have released their odds for the betting market for the outright winner for the women's national championship tournament.  Although the tournament will be contested by 64 teams UCONN have the futures market for the event absolutely CRUSHED.

Connecticut has come in as -800 favorites to win the 2010 National Championship while the other 63 teams combined have odds of +500 (5/1).

If you take the field in this market and Connecticut loses in any round then you are looking at profiting 5 units for every 1 unit bet.

The reason Connecticut are coming in as such huge favorites is because they have won 72 games in a row, they are the defending national champions, and the school has 6 national championships already for women's college basketball - all under the current head coach Geno Auriemma.  They have won all 32 of the games that they have played in this season and nobody has played them to within single digits.

As a case in point, West Virginia is a three seed in the women's draw and Connecticut
crushed them by 28 points in the Big East final recently.

This tournament will have 63 games played but it feels like it is already over.  I've never recommended odds this short before but -800 looks safe to go in with as Connecticut feel more like -1200 favorites, maybe shorter.
