THE STAKES
Two Turkish Airlines Euroleague powerhouses with loads of Final Four experience are set to meet again in the first semifinal. CSKA Moscow takes on Panathinaikos in simply one of the best basketball games one can witness. Both teams are six-time Euroleague winners and are in their 11th Final Four appearance, which says plenty about their dominance. CSKA is in its ninth Final Four in the last decade and the Greens have made it to Europe's signature event for the eighth time since 2000. Panathinaikos and CSKA combine for four of the last five Euroleague titles and the game features the last two Euroleague MVPs - Dimitris Diamantidis of Panathinaikos and Milos Teodosic of CSKA.

In other words, the 2012 Final Four could not have a better start, so sit back, relax and enjoy an outstanding and intense basketball showdown in another chapter in one the greatest sporting rivalries of the new millennium. 

INJURIES
Both teams are at full strength. 

THE TAKE
Of course, slowing Dimitris Diamantidis will be a critical issue for CSKA. Diamantidis is made for big games due to his leadership, legendary defensive skills, size, court vision and game knowledge. He will get plenty of help at point guard, as four-time Euroleague winner Sarunas Jasikevicius brings energy, great shooting and passing skills and leadership off the bench. Jasikevicius has never lost a Final Four game (8-0) and wants to keep his winning streak going. Nick Calathes offer help at both guard spots and his ability to step up in big games can give CSKA a lot of trouble. 

Milos Teodosic played against Diamantidis a lot in the former’s four seasons with Olympiacos and hopes to live up to the challenge in what promises to be a key matchup. It will not be a surprise to see Alexey Shved or Jamont Gordon guard Diamantidis, with Teodosic taking care of Calathes or Jasikevicius. Shved has the size, quickness and athleticism required to go against Diamantidis, but Teodosic can also challenge his defense with his creativity and determination. Jamont Gordon offers explosiveness and deep range off CSKA's bench and Ramunas Siskauskas is still unstoppable in one-on-one situations. His experience and endless talent will give Coach Zeljko Obradovic plenty to think about. Panathinaikos is deep at both wings, as Calathes is joined by streak shooter David Logan, all-around swingman Romain Sato, reliable defender Stratos Perperoglou and the versatile Kostas Kaimakoglou, who has been an essential player for the Greens this season. Sato and perhaps even Diamantidis could see playing time against Siskauskas but Panathinaikos's main concern will be stopping forward Andrei Kirilenko, a one-of-a-king player due to his intensity, energy, talent and athleticism. Sato and Perperoglou will try to play physical against him, using their experience and aggressiveness against the CSKA superstar. 

As for the battle in the paint, the match-up between Mike Batiste and Nenad Krstic promises to be critical too. Despite being an experienced player, Krstic is in his first Final Four and will not have it easy against Batiste, a three-time Euroleague winner who won his last seven games at this event. Krstic must use his post moves against Batiste and Ian Vougioukas, who leads the Euroleague in fouls drawn per minute. Krstic will have plenty of help from Sasha Kaun, a very effective player at both ends. Viktor Khryapa can make the difference at power forward due to his quickness, power, defense and versatility. Khryapa and Andrey Vorontsevich face an interesting battle against Kaimakoglou, three-point threat Steven Smith and veteran forward Kostas Tsartsaris. The game will probably come down to details, so controlling the defensive boards and playing point by point, possession by possession will be a big key for both teams in what could easily become an instant classic.
