Olympiacos will look to beat 'lucky' CSKA Moscow in the EuroLeague Final in Istanbul on Sunday.

CSKA Moscow have been the best team in this season's Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, losing just two of their 17 matches in the competition. They were, however, lucky to reach the final after being outplayed by reigning champions Panathinaikos in the semi finals in Istanbul.

The Russians were thankful to star man Andrei Kirilenko, who scored a succession of crucial points to drag his side back from a 29-15 first quarter deficit and win 66-64. Centre Nenad Krstic admitted that CSKA had been lucky, although he believes that they deserved the victory due to their strong work rate.

"The luckier team won but you have to earn your luck and we earned ours because we never gave up although we were in disarray and looked lost in the opening period," he said.

"We had problems in defending their pick-and-roll offence early on and were not focused enough in the first quarter but all the pieces came together when we applied our trademark half-court pressure,
 
"Sunday's final will be the biggest game of my career and we now have to recover both emotionally and physically from this roller coaster which could have gone the other way and deservedly so had Panathinaikos scored on their last possession."

CSKA Moscow will now face another Greek side, Olympiacos Piraeus in the final of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and the Russians are being strongly backed to claim another victory. They are just 1.28 to win the match and 1.90 to cover the spread, which has been set at 7.5 points.

That seems reasonable as, although they may have rode their luck against Panathinaikos, CSKA have been the best team in the EuroLeague this season while Olympiacos are not even the best team in Greece. They only beat Barcelona in the semi finals thanks to an inspired final minute from Vassilis Spanilous, who scored a three pointer before setting up Richard Dorsey for a lay-up to seal a 68-64 victory, and are arguably even luckier than CSKA to be in the final.

The Greeks were comprehensively outplayed and beaten in both Top 16 group matches against Moscow, losing 86-78 on home court and 96-64 in Russia. One would imagine that on a neutral ground the score will fall somewhere in between but that still equals a fairly routine win for CSKA.

Obviously it is a final, and Olympiacos will give their all but they are likely to come up short and even generous odds of 3.50 don't look enticing enough. The simple fact is that they lack the offensive power to cope with their opponents and that will be their undoing.
