World Series Futures 2009

- 25 Aug 2009

The New York Yankees are rightfully the favorite but where are the good risks?

With September baseball about 1 week away, most would have to agree that the New York Yankees are the favorite to win this year's fall classic.  They have the best winning percentage in all of baseball at .629 and they look like they will have home field advantage throughout the playoffs.  The only real problem with the Yankees is that, due to their prowess, their odds in the futures market aren't that fun anymore.

To get attractive prices one needs to look over at the National League.

In the NL Central the winner will almost certainly be the St. Louis Cardinals and they look like a great pick to win the World Series this year because of the odds they are offering.  With Stan James, for example, you can still put a bet on the Cardinals at +900 (9/1) and that has to be considered a valuable play.  The Cardinals have really slammed the door in the NL Central in the last couple months and they have taken their winning percentage from mediocrity in June, to prominence now.

The other team in the National League that offers a great price to win the World Series is the Colorado Rockies.  Colorado has surged from obscurity in the NL West to being a scary threat in that division.  Should they fail to overtake the Dodgers they still should be force to be reckoned with in the post-season playoffs as they would likely still hang on to the coveted Wild Card position.

Stan James has the Rockies at +2500 (25/1) to win the World Series and there is certainly value in making that pick.
