The San Diego Padres barely put up a fight on Thursday night against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies at Petco Park.

Mat Latos, the starting pitcher for the Padres, didn't last as long as the sixth inning while the Padres' had very little offensively against a hot Roy Oswalt.

The result was a 3-0 win for the Phillies as they took the first game of their four game series in San Diego.

Latos, who looked sharp for a significant portion of last season, has now lost eight consecutive starts and it won't be long until the press start hounding him in San Diego. Latos gave up two blasts in the second inning to players near the bottom of Philadelphia's lineup and the pitcher's pitch count was near 100 pitching in the fifth inning.

The Padres and Phillies will meet again on Friday in a game that starts at 7:05pm PT. Tonight's pitching match-up will feature Cole Hamels against Clayton Richard.
