Chicago White Sox vs Boston Red Sox tips

- 25 Aug 2009
Despite being involved in close races, neither team has played well lately.

The Boston Red Sox are a game and a half up on the Texas Rangers in the American League Wild Card race, while the Chicago White Sox are three and a half back of the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central division.  Neither the White Sox nor the Red Sox can afford to take things easy at this point in their seasons although neither can be considered to be playing notably well at this point.  The poor White Sox, the worst team in baseball that might still realistically make the playoffs, do not look like they will be competing for victory tonight against Red Sox.

The reason for the pessimism in regard to the fate of the White Sox tonight is that they are in Boston and they, Chicago, will be sending a weak starter to the mound.  Firstly, Boston is a very good home team as they have gone 40-20 on the year at Fenway.  Secondly, the White Sox are a bad road team as they have gone 27-32 on the road.  Lastly, the White Sox are going to be sending 34 year old Freddy Garcia to the mound who only has one start this season where he gave up 5 earned runs in just 4.1 innings.

With the Red Sox sending Jon Lester to the mound the best thing that the White Sox can hope for is for Detroit to lose their next game so that at least they, Chicago, won't lose more ground.

The odds on the Red Sox straight up with Players Only is practically untouchable at -300 (1/3) however to cover a -1.5 spread the odds are set at -150 (2/3).
