Boston Red Sox - Red Sox are interested in Roy Halladay

- 26 Nov 2009

The Roy Halladay saga looks like it could be long, possibly fruitless, and maybe even a little annoying.

The best pitcher in the Major Leagues for most of his career, Halladay has been part of a Blue Jays franchise that has not really been bad over the last decade or so, but has never had enough fire-power to beat both the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox in the AL East pennant race.

Halladay, who started the 2009 All Star Game for the American League, was mentioned in several trade rumors this past season.  However, the Blue Jays had a price that was simply too high and Halladay stayed put in Toronto, one of only a few franchises not to make the post-season since the expansion to the Wild Card system in the mid-90s.

The latest rumor is that the Boston Red Sox are interested in Halladay.  While that does not mean that they will get him, keep in mind that Boston is one of the more powerful franchises in the Majors.  They've got the bucks and they've got the winning reputation that can lure a talent like Halladay, an aging player that must want to experience post-season success.

Presently Boston has a price of +800 (8/1) to win next year's World Series with Stan James.

Our recommendation is to sprinkle that price as it should shorten if they acquire Halladay.  If they do not then you still have one the anticipated contenders for next season at long odds.
