By winning the National League, the Cardinals (7/5 to win World Series) won one lucky
William Hill punter £50,000. The online punter, believed to live in London, staked £400 on the Cardinals winning the National League at odds of 125/1.
Hills have released a number of specials including 200/1 for any player to pitch a no-hitter, a feat not achieved in World Series history since 1956 when Don Larsen did so for the Yankees. Hills also offer 100/1 for a triple play to be turned and 12/1 for the series to end with a walk off hit.
Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly told Bettingpro.com: “The culmination of another fine season could see the Cardinals add to their already bulging trophy cabinet but to do so, they will have to overcome a Rangers side in rampant form who are the bookies firm favourites.”
The Cardinals are the 4/5 favourites to win Game One at Busch Stadium with the Rangers 21/20.
