West Coast Eagles v Essendon Bombers

West Coast Eagles forward Josh Kennedy is ready to lead from the front when their NAB Cup campaign kicks off against the Essendon Bombers on Friday.

The Eagles are 1.50A$ with Sportsbet.com.au to make it to the next round of the AFL’s pre-season tournament – something they failed to manage last season.

Kennedy was surprised to be voted as one of the team’s leaders for 2010 and is raring to go at the Subiaco Oval in a strong Eagles line-up which features Daniel Kerr, Darren Glass and number one draft pick Brad Sheppard.

Kennedy told WAToday.com.au: “It has been great, a good experience but pretty shocking at first.

"Glassy and the boys have helped me out a lot … and I am really looking forward to taking it on this year. At the start I did not know what to do. But Glassy reminded me the boys voted me in and to keep doing what I was doing. So I will lead by example."

Kennedy has admitted he is glad the NAB Cup is about to start because all the training in the world does not make up for actual game time.

He said: “I am sick of running around the track doing pre-season, so it is good to finally have a game.

"We want to play to win, and all the structures we have put in place for the pre-season we will play them on Friday night. We will chuck in some young kids like Luke Shuey. Brad Sheppard will play his first game. Hopefully we can get a result.”
