Geelong Cats’ chances of retaining the AFL Grand Final title have improved following a crucial win over the Hawthorn Hawks last weekend.

Hawthorn may still be the $4.25 favourites, but Geelong have been given some hope of defending their title after their win over the Hawks, firming from 5.50 to 4.50 with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au.

Collingwood have also held firm at 4.50, while Carlton have emerged as genuine contenders at 6.50.

With all the focus on the Victorian teams, the West Coast Eagles continue to fly under the radar and have firmed from 13 to 7.50.

Sportsbet.com.au spokesman Shaun Anderson said: “All the money has been on the Hawks, but the Cats showed that they can still match it with the best and could have one more crack at the flag left in them.

“There are a few teams who could think they deserve to be the flag favourites. It’s great to see so many teams with a genuine chance, giving plenty of value as it appears to be an open race.”
