Americain remains on course to defend his crown in the 2011 Melbourne Cup at Flemington next Tuesday.

The superstar has been given a few easy days since his victory in the Drake International Cup at Moonee Valley on Saturday and he is on target for his trip to Flemington on November 1st.  Luxbet currently have the raider as their 2011 Melbourne Cup favourite and it isn't hard to see why.

Trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre will arrive in Melbourne at the weekend to put the final touches to his stable star’s preperations, but all seems well and assistant trainer Stephanie Nigge is confident that Americain has recovered from his latest race better than he did last year.

Nigge explained:  "He didn't have a hard run on Saturday and mentally he has recovered better.

"He was still a bit stiff this morning, but that's because he was going slower. If we stretched him out he would feel fine.

"He is ready now and we don't need to do anything different before the Cup, just keep him happy.”
