Player's sponsor has no plans to ditch controversial star

Shaving giants Gillette have stated that they will stand-by controversial France striker Thierry Henry, after his admission that he handled the ball in the build-up to France’s crucial play-off goal against Ireland.

Henry has today been the subject of Irish vitriol, and much media criticism, following his Wednesday night’s play-off in Paris, however, the Barcelona striker has claimed that the hand-ball was intentional; despite television replays showing the player touch the ball twice with his left hand.

Gillette, a high-profile sponsor of Henry, have moved to publicly back the striker, stating:

"Gillette is aware of what happened last night in the World Cup play-off game. Thierry Henry has publicly acknowledged it was a handball.

"Gillette are not placed to comment on any refereeing decisions made in the match or any refereeing at all for that matter.

"This is not going to affect our relationship with Thierry Henry."
