England team manager Martin Johnson is facing an anxious wait on whether Courtney Lawes will be handed a suspension.

The lock or flanker, who plays for Aviva Premiership side Northampton Saints, will have to attend a disciplinary hearing after being cited for an incident during England’s opening 13-9 Pool B win over Argentina on Saturday.

Lawes must answer a charge of ‘punching or striking (with the knee)’ following an incident with the Pumas Mario Ledesma.

Johnson said: “We will provide any information required and attend as requested."

Lawes, who is the first player to be cited in the 2011 Rugby World Cup, will attend the hearing in Auckland at 0300 BST on Tuesday.

If found guilty Lawes will miss England’s next Pool B game against Georgia on Sunday September 18 in Dunedin.

England are currently 14/1 to win the World Cup with BetFred, while Paddy Power offer odds of 4/1 that Johnson’s men reach the Final at Eden Park on Sunday October 23.
