Extrabet.com is part of the IG group of companies.

The group was founded in 1974 and now employs over 800 staff around the globe. IG Group launched extrabet.com in March 2006 as a sister site to its spread-betting offering.

Originally it started out as a unique fixed-odds site, where customers could not only place bets in the normal fashion, but also effectively close out for a profit if the bet happened to be going well. However, in March 2009, extrabet.com relaunched as the first betting platform in the world to offer sports spread betting, sports and financial fixed-odds, sports and financial binary betting and a casino all under a single account.

As well as extrabet.com, the group includes IG Index, which offers financial spread betting and IG Markets which offers CFDs and foreign exchange trading. IG Group companies have over 72,000 clients worldwide making over 1 million transactions a month, over 90% of them online.

Summary Review - Extrabet

Extrabet have a unique offering, although their decision to recently add spread betting into the mix suggests that either a) the demand for fixed-odds betting where you can close out is limited or b) they haven’t marketed their product heavily enough in an industry which is already crowded.

The site is a joy to behold and the flash-heavy pages are like lightning when it comes to loading up and placing a bet. Their odds aren’t massively competitive, although this is partly due to the novel ability to close a winning or losing bet, something which has been available on betfair for some time – although many customers naturally like to see their wager fly or die.

Due to them having the clout of IG behind them, extrabet should be around for some time yet, although any further regression to their spread betting roots will mean the site resembles a white-label version of IG Index, not a fixed-odds operator with something new to offer.

Extrabet is a lot of fun and the customer service is about as helpful as you can get.
