Centrebet

Summary

Centrebet are certainly a different kind of bookmaker to have an account with. Some of the things that set them apart from the crowd (separate racing section, bigger stake sizes) must certainly be well-received by their customers and they have made great strides with their In-Play betting service in the past couple of years which sees them offering live wagering on a wide range of sporting events.

If you're a customer who likes betting on horse racing, you're likely to have plenty of time for their first-class service on this sport. While they've been covering Australian racing right from the very start and have a solid customer base in their home country, they are right up there with their UK and US racing coverage, especially for those high-rollers amongst us!

Background

Centrebet went online earlier than most (1996) and were the first out of any sportsbook in the southern hemisphere to accept bets over the internet. They are an Australian bookmaker and are therefore licensed by the Northern Territory Government's Racing Commission. The company were originally founded in 1992, offering bets on the telephone and growing their customer base fairly rapidly, especially in Australasia. More recently, they have grown the business in Scandinavia and parts of central Europe, although their product offering still leans towards the country where they are based.

Centrebet Casino and Centrebet Poker are conducted by Centrebet Gaming NV, which is licensed in the Netherlands Antilles. Centrebet Casino is powered by the award-winning Playtech online gaming platform.

Odds and Markets

One area where Centrebet stand out from many competitors is their maximum stake size, especially on the major football leagues (Champions League, EPL, La Liga, Serie A & Bundesliga). Their margins are pretty tidy as well, although they're more likely to take a position and go best price about an outsider in a football match or horse race, rather than the favourite.

On the horse racing front, they really come into their own as far as putting up early prices are concerned. If you like your racing across the globe, then these guys will have it covered and offer many different types of bet in addition to the standard win and place. The main criticism that we have about these guys is that their In-Play offering appears to be token. It's all very well distinguishing racing from the other sports but surely some emphasis should be made on splitting out the live odds from the pre-match selections.

Website

The Centrebet website can be accessed in 14 different languages and it’s likely that you’ll be defaulted to ‘Australian’ when you first visit - there are four English options for you to choose which will determine the sporting events that are advertised on the homepage. The Australian bookmaker employ a blue and black colour scheme on the site, splitting the homepage into three sections which can be scrolled up and down to access all the sports and market information.

Centrebet have taken the unusual step of splitting out their racing product from the rest of their sports markets. This isn't to say you can't skip across to the sportsbook product or vice versa - this has been covered with a neat drop-down menu. The website is very compact and user-friendly. You will immediately get to grips with how to navigate around the various sections, although better use could be made of the main body of the homepage and the bookmaker’s attempt at appealing to a UK audience still sees plenty of Australian events popping up.

Customer Service

There is 24/7 support for English speaking customers and the staff at Centrebet are very helpful when it comes to dealing with your query. However, be aware that calling customer services from outside of the UK and Europe is not toll-free and that a far more preferable option is to use the excellent live chat facility that is available.
