Background
Although they’re newcomers to the online marketplace, Bruce Betting was established in 1977 with Thomas (Bruce) Byrne opening his first betting shop in Kilcock Co. Kildare, Ireland. It is a family run business with eight members of the Byrne family trading under the name.
Bruce was the first bookmaker to offer a free-phone service in Ireland. It is Ireland’s fastest growing bookmaker with over 60 shops throughout Ireland and a Tele-betting centre.
Odds and Markets
If you like betting on horse racing or football, then you might find some of the prices to your liking. At present, it appears that Bruce Betting regularly go best price on favourites for big soccer matches; if they do cut their odds, it tends to be later than several other firms. The same applies to horse racing, although it’s unclear as to whether they are taking a position on a number of runners, or are just slow on the technical side of things!
Nevertheless, there are some juicy odds if you’re prepared to hunt around for them. With regard to range of markets, they are somewhat limited by a) the sports that they offer and b) the propositions available. For instance, in addition to the win market for football, there is only handicap, correct score and double result.
They deserve plus marks for offering a smattering of specials on racing and NFL, while if you’re into your Irish sports (Gaelic football, hurling), then you’ll get lots of enhanced odds opportunities from Bruce. However, be prepared to wait a little longer than normal for your bet to be settled, a winning wager on the evening football might not clear until the next morning.

The site has quite a homely feel to it. While it won’t win any awards for dynamism or slickness, it has a nice clean lay-out, with the available markets listed in a vertical menu and the big sporting events (along with X-Factor!) featured on the main body of the homepage. The sports homepage could probably be better utilised, although they deserve credit for having a Blog section, where sporting footage and articles are featured.
The site’s speed doesn’t appear to be an issue and placing a bet is a straightforward enough process. However, it doesn’t appear as though you can currently convert the odds from fractional to decimal, despite there being a drop-down menu on the site. In addition, there are still a few bugs at the time of writing, with my initial deposit not being shown as part of my balance. In addition, you have to phone their head office to place any free bets.
Customer Service
This is possibly the friendliest set of operators I have dealt with. Despite the fact that Bruce Betting are newcomers and are having a few glitches as a result, the staff couldn’t be more helpful when it came to depositing queries, along with placing my free bet. It’s just a shame that their hours are only 8am – 6pm and that their Live Chat facility is currently not in service.
