Boxing continues to be a popular sport when it comes to betting as punters can now place a bet on the big fight 24 hours a day, seven days a week by using their PC, tablet or mobile device. No longer do you have to run down to the bookies to place your bet on the fight at 5am the following day – now you can place your bet during the undercard!

Lots of different betting options on boxing

There are a host of markets to choose from when betting on boxing – not just the standard ‘who will win?’ type of bet. It is hard to imagine anyone feeling the tug to bet against the likes of the Klitschko brothers or pound-for-pound number one Floyd Mayweather, and betting on them to win offers absolutely no value at all. So what options do you have? Well, the answer is plenty.

Round betting is very popular among boxing fans because it gives you a great opportunity to land a tasty payout from some very good odds. Someone like Wladimir Klitschko can go into a fight as a 1/50 favourite but you could get odds like 7/1 on him finishing his opponent in the seventh round. So from finding very little value in backing Klitschko to win, you have now found plenty to be had from selecting when the Ukrainian will finish his fight.

Pick a round where your boxer will win

And if you are not confident about picking out individual rounds, you can select a group of them thanks to the “Group Round Betting” option that is offered by leading bookmakers. So if you fancy a seventh-round KO but fancy a little added insurance, you can back the group of rounds 7-9, giving your pick nine minutes to finish his opponent instead of three. Looking at our example fight for Klitschko, you could back that finish at 5/2.

Method of victory is another popular market because it allows boxing punters to use their knowledge of two fighters to determine how it will go down, with the standard options a points/decision win and a victory by KO or TKO. Almost every bookmaker will also let you bet on whether or not the fight goes the distance.

Every major card is covered by bookmakers and odds are made available very early on, giving you plenty of time to make your decision on how the fight will go down. And the leading bookies also offer odds on potential fights in the future. For example, without a contract being signed you can bet on a meeting between David Haye and Vitali Klitschko, and that can give you some added value that may not be present once pen is put to paper and the fight is confirmed.
